The Smelt and caddisfly both live in a freshwater environment under flax bushes , raupo and sprawling emergent plants .
The Smelt eats around 30 baby bugs in a day at the most but sometimes it eats even more like 50 if it is really hungry. On the other hand the caddisfly eats around 3 invertebrates a day. Invertebrates are NOT BUGS!!! Bugs have backbones while invertebrates don't.
Overall the caddisfly and the smelt live in the same environment and they eat quite different things .
